US Trends Most Likely To Affect Upcoming In-Demand Jobs

The pandemic has negatively affected a lot of industries in the US such as airlines, hotels, movie theaters, and retail. At the same time, some trends when it comes to employment and in-demand jobs in the US also emerged. For example, the pandemic has highlighted the need for more medical professionals in the country.

If you are planning to enroll and study in the US, check below to know the trends most likely to impact in-demand jobs in the country in the coming years.

Opening the US Again

As the vaccination efforts in the US accelerate, so are the possibilities of a safer opening of US doors to international students worldwide. As of April 2021, the US vaccination efforts have been moving at a faster pace. Now, the country is inoculating 2.3 million shots a day, compared to the 1.7 million shots a day in February.

The US situation against COVID-19, deemed to be one of the worst in the past year, has been slowly improving after the change in administration in terms of vaccinating the people. Not only was it good news for the US economy, but also for the US education sector. In terms of accepting international students in the past years, it has been slow since the pandemic compared to other favorite study destinations such as the UK, Australia, and Canada.

The Rise of Digitization

According to a 2020 LinkedIn report, due to the pandemic, the need for digital platforms to do everything in our daily lives has become more important. For example, due to social distancing restrictions, messaging applications such as Messenger and WhatsApp, and video conferencing applications such as Zoom, have become more important to connect with people.

Many consumers have also transitioned to doing all their shopping online. No wonder that grocery delivery services, such as Instacart, have experienced a huge increase in downloads in the past year. With the increasing need for digitization in the daily lives of people, it is unsurprising that there will be a huge demand for tech-related jobs and digital content creation jobs in the coming years.

According to LinkedIn, around 150 million tech-related jobs are expected to be globally added for the next five years. In the US, the top in-demand tech-related jobs have something to do with AI and data science, or job roles including machine learning engineers, AI specialists, and data scientists.

Other tech-related and digitization-related jobs that will become in demand in the US in the coming years include digital marketing director, digital coordinator, SEO specialist, social media manager, data engineer, data architect, content writer, content producer, podcaster, UX design specialist, front-end engineer, cloud engineer, and so on.

Normalization of Remote Work

The pandemic has also normalized remote work. In fact, according to a McKinsey & Company report, it seems that remote work or the hybrid models of it are likely to persist even after the pandemic. Moreover, in the US, LinkedIn has found out that in November 2020, 15% of job applications are remote jobs.

Some job roles that transitioned to remote work and have experienced an increase in the US include teaching assistant, academic tutor, teacher for different education levels, language teacher, loan consultant, financial representative, mortgage loan processor, e-commerce coordinator, warehouse team lead, strategic advisor, sales consultant, business development consultant, career and life coach, fitness coach, diversity officer, and so on.

Increasing Demand for Healthcare Workers

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the extreme need for medical professionals and assistants worldwide, making it more of an in-demand sector. As of 2020, there are around 230,000 job openings for top medical professional roles in the US.

Although vaccines are already present, the need for medical professionals is sure to persist in post-vaccinated America. Some in-demand healthcare jobs include respiratory therapist, health coach, paramedic, pharmacy technician, healthcare consultant, Registered Nurse, Intensive Care Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistant, mental health counselor, behavioral health technician, and so on.
