For international students in the US, tuition fees are only the tip of the iceberg. Their total expenses include visa application fees, admission fees, air flights, insurance, accommodation costs, among others.
To cushion the weight of high financial requirements, international students apply for scholarships. This is a better alternative to taking out student loans, which takes a long time to pay back, long after graduation.
