Must-Try Food in the UK for International Students

If you are yet to attend a university in the UK, you may need some brain food to fuel you while studying. Below are some must-try British delicacies for international students:

Fish and chips

A Great British staple, fish and chips is a savory meal that is loved by the British people. It is cooked in a way that makes the mouth water, by simply deep-frying the fish in batter and serving it with a pile of thick-cut chips. Cover it in salt and vinegar or dip it in ketchup. It is best eaten in the open air, or even better, by the sea.

Haggis

On your UK tour in the north for some exciting food? You should definitely try this food for the adventurous. If you ever travel to Scotland, their national dish called haggis is a must-try.

Haggis is a sausage made up of the liver, lungs, stomach, and heart of a sheep. Then, this pudding-like mixture is seasoned, added with onions and oatmeal, all encased in the sheep’s stomach. It is a traditional and ancient dish, made more special when served with swede and mashed potatoes.

Shepherd’s Pie/Cottage Pie

These dishes are very similar to each other with only differences in the meat used. Of course, in a shepherd’s pie, lamb is used while beef is used in a cottage pie. What’s even more confusing is neither of the two is a pie in the pastry sense. Its red meat is cooked in gravy and then topped with mashed potato.

Full English Breakfast

A full English breakfast is something that you should have in the morning. It is jam-packed with bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, hash browns, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, and black puddings. Definitely a dish you can never go wrong. This is ideal when you have a test to boost your body and brain.

Apple Crumble

Some say the apple crumble is the UK’s greatest gift to world cuisine. Apple crumble is a sweet treat, that is sweet apples baked with a layer of flour, sugar, and butter. It is an easy favorite, especially when topped with ice cream or served with hot custard, as it should be.

Cream Tea

England’s southern part is the country’s sunniest region, where cream tea truly shines. Cream tea is a form of afternoon tea that comprises tea, scones, jam, clotted cream, and often butter. It has become a world-renowned delicacy and is surely Instagram-worthy.
