Over 60 ‘Cadets’ from the college’s Deeside campus are combining their studies with internship endeavors through a partnership between Coleg Cambria and some of the leading North Wales companies.
Among the companies are Ardagh, AMRC Cymru, ConvaTec, Magellan Aerospace, Atlas Copco, TATA, Electroimpact, ESD, DRB, Triumph Actuation Systems, UPM Shotton, JCB, and Kellogg’s.
The first cohort began in Cambria in September, according to Nick Tyson, Vice Principal for Technology, Engineering, and Construction, and is already making substantial progress toward their gold awards.
They work in groups of six, each with a different firm, and they have access to support and advice, as well as guest speakers and mentors.
Tyson added that the Industrial Cadet program has been extremely popular and is providing learners with invaluable real-life, real-time experience with outstanding organizations in a variety of sectors, including food production, manufacturing, engineering, and more.
Coleg Cambria is participating for the first time, and the institution anticipates building on existing collaborations to create additional student opportunities like this.
The initiative is an industry benchmark for outreach and education, developing pathways via academics and employment, and is led by the educational charity Engineering Development Trust (EDT).
