Budget-Friendly Places You Can Visit in Munich

The city of Munich in Germany may be famous for its amazing beer, old-fashioned bars, and famous German beer hall music. In fact, Munich is one of the top brewing capitals of Europe, aside from the many cities of Belgium.

Aside from its beer, breweries, and bars, there are other places worth visiting in Munich—and if you are on a budget, you can visit and enjoy them at an affordable price, or even for free.

Read below to know the best budget-friendly places in Munich that you can visit.

Visit BMW Welt

Whether you love cars or not, you might want to visit Munich’s BMW Welt. BMW, probably the most famous, and still the best, luxury car brand in the world, has its headquarters in Munich, Germany. So while you are staying in Munich, a visit to the BMW Welt can add to your experience. It is near the Olympic Stadium and just beside the BMW Plant.

The BMW Welt is a giant showroom showcasing the company’s products throughout the years, including its sedans, minis, racing cars, electric vehicles, and even its Rolls Royce coaches. You can also take a glimpse at the company’s concept cars, which we may see on the market soon. Aside from being huge, the BMW Welt building itself boasts amazing architecture, giving it a futuristic look.

You can enter the BMW Welt for free. For those planning to purchase a BMW, they can do so from the Welt. However, for those who don’t have enough money but want to try driving a BMW, some of the cars can be rented by the hour (around EUR 75 per hour).

Visit the Munich’s Museums on a Sunday

Munich has over 80 museums spread across the city showing various things and exhibits including a collection of artworks from various eras of Europe; scientific and technical exhibits; and other exhibits showcasing the country or the city’s culture and history. Most museums grant free entry to individuals under the age of 18, or students. However, in case you do not qualify for it, you can still access Munich’s museums at EUR 1 on Sundays.

Some famous museums you can visit and access for EUR 1 on Sundays include:

  • Alte Pinakothek
  • Glyptothek
  • Bayerisches Nationalmuseum

Check Out Munich’s Hofbräuhaus

If you are a beer lover or enthusiast, or just want to learn more about Germany’s beer hall culture, a visit to its famous beer hall, Hofbräuhaus, is a must—and so is being at least 18 years old!

Hofbräuhaus has been around for centuries, brewing and serving beers and Bavarian specialties (roast and knuckle pork) since 1589.

Located at the heart of Munich, this beer hall has a huge banquet, and a festival hall playing different types of music including traditional folk music. If you want to learn more about the history of this beer hall, you can visit a free historical exhibit in the hall’s gallery.
